Description
A Spode Imari spill vase in pattern no. 1216 having cobalt blue and gold colors with floral designs and white pearl rim and pedestal base. Marked with SPODE and pattern number handwritten in red with an unusual mark handwritten in black. According to the Spode Museum Trust Curator, the black handwritten mark appears to be that of the Carborundum Museum of Ceramics which was a short lived venture in the 1970s when Spode was owned by the Carborundum Group. Pieces from the Spode Museum in the UK were leant for display in the Carborundum Museum and company headquarters. Many of the pieces disappeared when the business was transferred to new owners and never made it back to the Spode Museum Trust despite investigations by professional detectives. The “lost” pieces have long since been written-off.
