Widely recognized as leading the development of glass as a contemporary fine art, Dale Chihuly is well-known for his large-scale sculptures, celebrated architectural installations, and series of works, (including Cylinders, Baskets, Seaforms, Macchia, Venetians and Persians, among others), as well as his signature Chandeliers. Chihuly earned his M.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design, where he later established the glass program and became the Director. He is co-founder of the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington. Chihuly has been recognized with numerous awards, fellowships, and honorary doctorates, including the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, a Fulbright Fellowship to Murano, Italy, and the National Endowment for the Arts, to name a few. Chihuly's work has been exhibited internationally at leading museums and sites including Venice, Italy; the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Palais du Louvre, in Paris; New York Botanical Gardens; Dallas Arboretum; and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, among many others. His work appears in over 200 museum collections worldwide, including the well-known, large permanent exhibitions at Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle, Washington.
