John Lewis (American, b. 1942) Console Table Cast glass 30 x 32 x 20 inches (76.2 x 81.3 x 50.8 cm) PROVENANCE: Hindman, Chicago, Illinois, Palm Beach Collections, September 16, 2020, lot 18. John Lewis was introduced to glassblowing by Marvin Lipofsky, the founder of the University of California, Berkeley's glass program, and later received his M.F.A. in design. Lewis established his hot-glass studio in Oakland in 1969 where he has created a diverse range of cast-glass sculptures and furniture pieces, as well as art glass bowls and decorative vessels. Lewis is represented internationally by galleries and has collaborated on site-specific projects and commissions by incorporating hand crafted cast glass into monumental sculpture and functional designs in a variety of environments. Noteworthy projects produced by the studio are: The Oklahoma City Memorial, The Hearst Tower "Ice Falls", New York, and The Israel Museum Water Cascade, Jerusalem.
