Richard Jolley completed his B.F.A at George Peabody College, Nashville, Tennessee, and further developed his techniques at Penland School of Crafts, North Carolina, where he has frequently returned as an Instructor. Distinct series of works such as Torsos and Totems exemplify his centering of the human figure. Jolley has also executed significant site-specific commissions of installations, such as at the Knoxville Museum of Art. Since establishing his glass studio in Knoxville, Jolley's works have been included in over 65 solo museum and gallery exhibitions throughout the US, Europe, and Japan, in particular, and includes many prominent sculpture commissions. His work has been included in important international museum exhibitions and is represented in over 33 public collections, including the Corning Museum of Glass, New York; Los Angeles County Museum of Modern Art; the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C., among others.
