Each gracefully potted with rounded sides supported on a straight foot, the mouth rim flaring very slightly, a finely enameled single peony spray on the interior, the exterior covered with mottled pink enamel stopping neatly at the foot, the base is glazed and left plain.

Famille rose bowls of this form and decoration were made for the domestic market as well as for export. The quality of enameling varies greatly. It is rare to find a nicely matched pair such as the present example.

A pair of very fine famille rose pink enameled bowls of the same decoration from the E.T. Hall Collection was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, May 28th, 2013, lot 2108.

Overall in good, original condition with no crack and no restoration. Very nice painting of peony sprays. Strong pink enameling on the exterior; one bowl appears to be slightly darker. Small pin holes to rim and throughout for both bowls, as typical for porcelains of the period. Chips to mouth rim before the pink enamel was applied, all original to the making of the bowls.
