Condition
PLEASE NOTE: This report describes, but may not be limited to, major condition issues for the lot.
An identical example in the Miho Museum is illustrated by H. Inagaki in Galleries and Works of the Miho Museum, Shiga, 2019, p. 103, no. 044.
In excellent condition with inlays largely intact. Judging from the degraded turquoise stone, the turquoise inlays could be original. Casting is strong and easy to read. The knob and loop on the back are firmly attached.
The back is finely inlaid with four serpents in gold and silver, and the front is elaborately inlaid with dragon and phoenix, an indication of highest quality made for a king or royal family.
