Description
Pair of Art Nouveau armchair sofas, ca. 1900.
Carved oak wood. Metal handles and upholstered seats.
They show wear and tear from use and the passage of time.
Measurements: 200 x 100 x 60 cm (each).
Pair of Catalan armchair sofas with upholstered seat and backrest. On the high backrest there is a fruit panel worked in bas-relief, which gives place to a glass cabinet with shelves. The whole piece of furniture continues the modernist style with organic and fluid forms. In the modernist period, furniture plays an important role, as it is a style that seeks to integrate all the arts, to build spaces in which everything, from the building itself to the door handles, is designed with an appropriate aesthetic, with attention and care. Moreover, Modernisme developed at a time when the old traditional techniques flourished, especially in the decorative arts. Thus, in glass, ceramics, goldsmithing and other arts, including cabinetmaking, old procedures that had fallen into disuse were recovered and applied according to new criteria, within the new language.
