Robert "Bob" Rohm (American, b. 1948). Oil on board, ca. 1990s. Signed on the lower right. A large-scale painting of a pair of charming country cottages behind a picket fence that is lined with beautiful blooming wildflowers of scarlet hues which match the red roofs of those cozy homes which are otherwise painted a pristine white with cornflower blue trim. Rohm's painterly style announces its presence in his rendering of the verdant foliage and tree canopies; lively brushstrokes and pallette knife work imbue the painting with undeniable liveliness. What's more, Rohm's attention to detail is delightful and inspires the viewer to piece together a narrative and ask questions. For instance, notice the flowers' reflections in the puddles on the dirt road. Did the residents just water their gardens, or could we be witnessing a moment of calm following a dramatic thunderstorm? The partially drawn window shades also peak the viewer's curiosity - Who lives here? Might they be friends or family of the artist?

Artist's Statement: "Bob has been painting most of his life, and received classical art training at the York Academy of Arts in Pennsylvania. Now a resident of Texas, his paintings reflect the brilliance of the colors found in the clear, bright light of the southwest. Known for his ability to capture the poetry of light, he has received many awards and is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, Oil Painters of America and the Outdoor Painters Society. He is the author of the book THE PAINTERLY APPROACH and has been featured in many publications including Southwest Art, American Artist, The Artist’s Magazine, The Pastel Journal, International Artist and Pure Color. Bob's painting approach has been the subject of several instructional DVD productions. His work is collected internationally and is represented by a number of fine galleries including Sorrel Sky in Santa Fe, RS Hanna in Fredericksburg, Aspen Grove Fine Arts in Aspen and Southwest Gallery in Dallas."
