Description
The Pledge of Allegiance. The Pledge of Allegiance of the United States is a patriotic recited verse that promises allegiance to the flag of the United States and the republic of the United States. It was originally written in 1885 by Captain George Thatcher Balch, a Union Army officer in the Civil War. It was re-written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy. An autograph collector has persuaded the signer to include an autograph pledge, together with their signature: Archibald Cox (1912-2004) Lawyer. Cox is best known for his role as special prosecutor in the Watergate investigation, but his career also involved him in a number of First Amendment issues. 8 ½” x 11” autograph pledge quote signed.
