Southern Sweden
Large and finely knapped axe from the 'thin-butted type' made from an excellent and colorful flintstone. Typical example dating from the Neolithic/chalcolithic period in Southern Sweden and between 6,000-4,000 years old. These large axes are also called 'offer-axes' because the function seems to transcend the profane use as an axe. Found in lakes, graves and specific deposits they were probably exchange goods or gifts with religious connotation. Measuring 22 x 8 x 6 cm. Height with stand 28 cm (2)
