Description
Ensemble de quatre oeufs de dinosaure
Clutch of Four Dinosaur Eggs
Cairanoolithus Dughii (Titanosauride)
Maastrichtian, Upper Cretaceous
Dept. Mèze, South of France
Rarely are intact dinosaur eggs found—the vast majority of specimens recovered are mere fragments. Offered here is an extremely rare nest of four virtually complete fossil eggs. Each shows little distortion and good coverage of fossil shell. Measuring approximately 22 cm in width, each fossil egg is partially exposed from a stabilized natural clay matrix.
In 1859, the very first dinosaur eggs ever discovered were found in Aix-En-Province, France. They were believed to be from a giant bird or from a giant crocodile. After much study the fossil eggs were finally understood to come from dinosaurs—more specifically from the group of those gigantic long-necked sauropods known as Titanosauride. Matrix measuring 75 x 38 x 25 cm. Base measuring 75 x 38 x 38 cm (2)
Footnotes:
Accompanied by a custom-fitted wooden display stand.
