Description
This Antique Executioner's Axe evokes vivid images, as to the history it has likely been a part of. The provenance provided to us by the previous owner indicated that this execution axe was purchased in Germany. From their research, they discovered that the Bavarian Hallmark Stamp indicates that the axe is from the town of Graz, and dates to about the 1600's. The axe belonged to a "Heinreich Obresch", a known gentleman for which there are online references to around that time period. This is a wonderful looking piece with two metal crosses inlaid into the solid wood handle. The blade measures approximately 8.5" long and is very heavy. There is a minor small dent in the blade and pitting throughout, as would be expected for something of this time period. The overall length of the execution axe is approximately 41.75". What a wonderful conversation piece and relic for any collector. Please ensure that this weapon does not require a special license in your state for beheadings?
