Inscribed: A. Gilbert (in script) on marble base.
Bronze & IV0RY (cold-painted)
Size: 12-1/4 In. Length x 8-1/2 In. Width x 9 In. Height.
Literature: Brian Catley's 'Art Deco and Other Figures', Antiques Collector's Club, 2003, page 156, for an example of this exact figure.
Lot Note(s): The seated Pierrot with closed eyes, holds a mandolin in one hand, his light blue/silvered patinated costume with gilt highlights to the ruffle collar, cuffs and slippers, mounted on a semi-circular stepped black base.
FWIW: For a nearly identical example see Bonhams Knightsbridge on 11/17/2015 lot: 63 with a presale estimate $3,042-4,563 SOLD: $3,004.00 USD
In our opinion the quality of this sculpture: regarding the BONE IV0RY carving, placement of the fingers and angle of the head and hands is far superior in this example then the one sold by Bonhams on 11/17/2015.
Condition report: Minor wear throughout (cold paint) figure, BONE IV0RY shows age related stress cracks and yellowing, marble with fleabites to extremities. Otherwise very good to excellent. Displays beautifully!
