Imagines Septem Planetarum. Folge von 1 gestochenen Titel und 7 Kupfertafeln. Um 1610. Plattenmaße je ca. 18,5 x 12 cm. Knapp auf die Plattenkante beschnitten und kaschiert in späterem HLdr. mit Marmordeckeln, Lederecken und goldgepr. RTitel (etwas berieben).
Set of 1 engraved title and 7 copper plates. Around 1610. Trimmed to the platemark and mounted in later half leather with marbled boards, leather corners and gilt title (somewhat rubbed). - Rare set of high-contrast copper engravings with allegorical depictions of the planets Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus and Mercury as well as the Sun and the Moon, as was usual until the introduction of the Copernican system. Each planet is depicted with its astronomical symbol, one or two signs of the zodiac and a scene with rich staffage metaphorically illustrating its characteristics (Rome for the Sun, a harbour for the Moon, mines and forges for Saturn, the Tower of Babel for Jupiter). The pictures are each accompanied by a three-liner below the illustrationm and are numbered from 1 to 7. Six of them are monogrammed by Le Roy (1579-1652). The title page with the dedication to Maximilien de Bethune, Duc de Sully, was engraved by de Leu (1560-1612). The set is a later reprint of the one engraved by Sadeler after Maarten de Vos. - A few leaves sporadically minimally brownspotted. Altogether in good condition.
Le Blanc II, 541, 54-60. - Seltene Folge von kontrastreichen und gratigen Kupferstichen mit allegorischen Darstellungen der Planeten Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus und Merkur sowie der Sonne und dem Mond, wie es bis zur Einführung des Kopernikanischen Systems üblich war. Jeder Planet ist dargestellt mit seinem astronomischen Symbol, einem oder zwei Tierkreiszeichen und einer Szene mit reicher Staffage, die seine Charakteristiken metaphorisch illustriert (Rom für die Sonne, eine Hafenstadt für den Mond, Minen und Schmieden für Saturn, der Turmbau zu Babel für Jupiter). Begleitet werden die Bilder von je einem Dreizeiler unterhalb der Darstellung. Die Tafeln sind von 1 bis 7 nummeriert, sechs von ihnen sind von Le Roy (1579-1652) monogrammiert. Das Titelblatt mit der Widmung an Maximilien de Bethune, Duc de Sully, wurde von de Leu (1560-1612) gestochen. Die Blätter stellen einen späteren Nachdruck der von Sadeler nach Maarten de Vos gestochenen Folge dar. - Einige Bll. vereinzelt minimal braunfleckig. Insgesamt wohlerhalten.
