Atlas volume with 88 mostly coloured lithographic plates. Modern half calf. A splendid educational work published in 24 editions. It was compiled by the Alsatian publisher and lithographer Godefroy Engelmann (1788-1839), the patent holder of chromolithography, who presented in it topographical, geological, hydrographical, climatic, astronomical, ethnographical, zoological and other information on all regions of the world. The volume contains astronomical plates, maps of Europe, Iceland, Russia, Italy, Turkey, Asia, Africa, America etc. as well as views of Niagara Falls and portraits of Hottentots, Senegalese, inhabitants of Kamchatka, Kalmyks etc.. Sporadically minimally spotted mostly in outer margin, overall good copy and clean.
Erste Ausgabe. - Gumuchian, 2413 - Prachtvolles pädagogisch ausgerichtetes Werk, das in 24 Lieferungen erschien. Es wurde von dem elsässischen Verleger und Lithografen Godefroy Engelmann (1788-1839), dem Patentinhaber der Chromolithografie, zusammengestellt, der darin topografische, geologische, hydrografische, klimatische, astronomische, ethnografische, zoologische u.a. Informationen zu allen Regionen der Welt darstellte. Der Band enthält neben astronomischen Tafeln, außerdem Karten von oEuropa, Island, Russland, Italien, der Türkei, Asien, Afrika, Amerika u.a. sowie Ansichten u.a. Niagara Fälle und Portraits von Hottentotten, Senegalese, Bewohner aus Kamtschatka , Kalmücken etc. Vereinzelt minimal meist im Außenrand fleckig, insgesamt gutes Exemplar und sauber.
