Description
Chinese style hardwood display cabinet, manner of Gabriel Viardot (French, 1830-1906). Flat rectangular top with raised ends above a large glass door having fretwork spandrels and flanked by Asian style gilt metal mounts, and a lower panel with lacquer decoration of an Asian figure in a naturalistic landscape setting. Cabinet contains four red velvet-lined shelves and a velvet-lined back. Glass sides with incised lower panels, all on a base with curved bracket feet and pierced skirt. The cabinet is surmounted by a removable carved altar stand having carved fretwork top above a central carved compartment with carved mask, flanked by two offering shelves. Overall with altar: 63 1/2" H x 30" W x 15 3/4" D. Without altar: 57" H. Late 19th/early 20th century.

Cabinet in overall good condition with expected use wear. Door is currently not attached, will need new dowels.
