signed, 23" tall, 19th century, well listed artist, excellent.....French sculptor (1842 Varzy to 1923 Paris), used primarily his first name, studied at the college in Varzy, from 1857 worked in Bourges under the direction of a sculptor on the restoration of diocesan buildings, later entered the School of Fine Arts in Paris, studied there under Auguste Dumont and Jean-Marie Bonnassieux, 1868 debut at the Paris Salon, exhibited there contemporary figures and works in neoclassical or neobaroque style in the following years, created several important sculptures, monuments and facades of buildings in Paris, in 1888 he was appointed director of the Clamecy Museum, later vice president of the Society of French Artists, president of the Syndicate of Artistic Property and officer of the Legion of Honor since 1900.
