Description
New Hampshire/ Iowa 1839-1912. Inlaid signature and date "PJ Sargent 1911". Elaborately inlaid table with four leaves, lazy susan and scrolled support base on paw feet. Central lazy susan has depictions of earliest landmarks including "Sheppard's Tavern", built by Osgood Shepherd ca. 1837-1838. The corners have later buildings dated 1870 and surrounded by stars. Four drop leaves have census counts for different years, additional buildings, American flags and signature. Minor wear, some age splits and a few missing pieces of inlay. 30.5"h. 24" x 24" top, leaves extended 34.25"d. Ex Jim and Nancy Glazer. Sold at New Haven Auctions, October, 2020, and Skinner, August, 2013. Another piece by Sargent is in the Masonic Hall of the Smithsonian.
