'Monete' jewels by Bulgari are typically set with ancient Roman coins. These earrings are unusual in featuring coins from ancient Persia. Umar-Ibn Al-Ala was Governor of Tabaristan during the 'Abbasid period. His name appears on coins in both Pahlavi and Arabic. Tabaristan was the name applied to a mountainous region located on the Caspian coast of northern Iran. The Sasanian or Sassanid Empire, officially known as the Empire of Iranians was the last Iranian Empire before the early Muslim conquests of the 7th–8th centuries CE.
Condition
Ancient coins with patina and discolouration commensurate with age. Untested white and yellow mounts with light surface wear. Base of one collet signed BVGARI and stamped 18K ITALY. Overall in good condition. Gross weight approx. 23.5 grams.
