SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND CLUSTER RING, 19TH CENTURY
The cushion-shaped sapphire, weighing 5.74 carats, within a border of old brilliant-cut diamonds, between scroll engraved bifurcated shoulders in 18 carat gold, diamonds approximately 1.80 carats total, later sponsor's mark and London hallmark, size K

Accompanied by a report from GCS stating that the sapphire is of Sri Lankan origin, with no indications of heat treatment. Report number 5782-2911 24th dated August 2022.

Sapphire bright and lively medium blue with violet tones and excellent transparency. Some minor variation in colour.
Under 10x magnification some feather inclusions seen and some fine silk exhibiting iridescence. Abrasion to a few facet edges and two very small chips to the girdle which aren't visible when worn and don't affect the integrity of the stone.
Diamonds estimated as H/I/J, VS-I1 (mostly SI). Under 10x magnification one small very small chip to the crown facets of one diamond.
Mount in good condition with minor surface wear. Later 18 carat London hallmark for 1990.
