From "Big Boy 4006", a locomotive pilot-mounted, cast iron Union Pacific number shield, mounted on a wooden display apex. The numerals are separately applied and show double square nuts securing them on the reverse side of the plate. Embossed on the back side is "54S3239" in a recessed panel. This plate measures 15" from the bottom tip of the shield to the lowest point in the concave surface on the top of the shield and measures 14 - 1/4" from the widest points on the crest of the shield. "Union Pacific" lettering measures 1 - 1/2" tall, numerals measure 4" tall. This plate has black field paint with silver letters, numerals and border. The back of the plate has semi-gloss black paint. There is some fading and deterioration of the silver. There are two mounting holes flanking the word "Union". The lower mounting holes are used to mount the plate to the wood display apex. This plate was originally from the William Kratville estate and was acquired by Brian Maiher in 2012 from Dirk Soulis Auctions. This is not a standard shippable item and will require 3rd party shipping or pickup arrangements to be made. Condition: (8). Dimensions: 14" x 17" x 5".

CORRECTION: Additional information on this plate has been provided by Cate Kratville-Wrinn, daughter of the late Bill Kratville. She has clarified that this plate was never owned by her father. Rather, it was sold in the 2012 Kratville RR auction (conducted by Soulis) as a consignment item from the estate of another deceased collector at the request of the Union Pacific Historical Society, with consent from Ms. Kratville-Wrinn.
