Description
A pair of Chinese blue-glazed dishes
Qianlong period
With four-character Jing Wei Tang mark to underside of each. (2).
H: 1, Dia: 4 1/4 in. (H: 2.54, Dia: 10.80 cm.)
Provenance: Collection of Mr. Shimer, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Most of the items were acquired in various cities in the United States in the 1980's and 1990's.
Jing Wei Tang monochrome glazed wares are exceptional, and this pair of plates are no exception. This well-shaped pair of plates feature a white-glaze interior and an exterior in a vibrant blue glaze. The glazing is even and clear, with the blue as deep as the ocean, emanating a solemn feeling. The bottoms of both plates feature a Jingweitang Zhi hall mark in underglaze blue within double squares - a marking style observed on a prolific volume of imperial-made artifacts of the Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong periods. Qing emperors admired scholarly principles and tended to name imperial halls with scholarly terms. Jingweitang was one of the imperial halls during the Qianlong period, and artifacts commissioned under its name bare the Jingweitang Zhi hall mark.
