The well-known figure in rich brown patina is lettered F. Barbedienne Fondeu along the base identifying the founder and bears the reduction seal of Achille Collas (French, 1794-1859), inventor of, among other things, a process for reproducing life-sized sculpture to proportions of table-top display like this.
