James J. Ingwersen is a classical realist painter who works in oils and pastels. He is nationally known for portraits of statesmen, scholars, business leaders and jurists. Loose brushwork and academic prowess create some of his most outstanding work. Ingwersen lived and worked in the Tree Studio Artist Colony in Chicago in the 1950s and 1960s. In the 1970s, he relocated to Door County, Wisconsin. His work is in many public and private collections.
