A micromosaic plaque, A micromosaic plaque, second half of the 19th century, Italian, Rome, possibly by the Studio Vaticano del Mosaico, depicting Romulus and Remus suckling the she-wolf beneath a tree, after the painting by Sir Peter Paul Rubens, 20cm diameter, in a North Italian ebonised frame Literature: Jeanette Hanisee Gabriel, 'Micromosaics: The Gilbert Collection', p.165, fig.97. Condition Report: The frame 40cm wide, 9cm deep, 40cm high. One or two minute areas of loss to inlay. General light surface wear and scratches to roundel. Knocks, ribbing and wear to frame. Overall appears in good order.
