A turn of the century Walter H. Durfee Pattern 18 grandfather clock. 8-day weight driven three train movement with quarter hour striking on nine tubular chimes or "eight bells", arched Brass dial with painted moon phases and engraved hemispheres, a Silvered chapter ring with Arabic numerals and subsidiary dials for seconds, Chime/Silent and Westminster Chimes/Chime on Eight Bells, dial with engraved retailers name "James E. Caldwell & Co. Philadelphia", movement marked "Walter E. Durfee" on top edge of backplate, damascened plates. Mahogany Chippendale style case with hand carved decoration features a molded broken arch top, turned finials with carved detail over an arched molded crown and conforming dial door with beveled glass flanked by turned columns with Brass capitols, over a carved molded frieze and waist door with carved Fan and beveled glass flanked by turned columns on a paneled base with carved moldings, turned columns with Brass capitols all supported by carved paw feet. Original finish with minor wear, lacks fabric in backboard, running when cataloged. 102 1/2" high. ESTIMATE $4,000-6,000
