NO RESERVE Theatre.- Collier (Jeremy) A Short View of the Immorality, and Profaneness of the English Stage, first edition, title with portion restored at head, spotting and light browning, etched bookplate to front pastedown, contemporary black morocco, gilt, possibly a remboitage, extremities a little rubbed, g.e., [Pforzheimer 189; WIng C5263], 8vo, for S. Keble &c., 1698.
⁂ Collier's famous attack on the English stage that began a small pamphlet war with John Vanbrugh. This copy includes a poem in an 18th century hand to the rear endpaper:
John Dryden enemies had three;
Sr. Dick, Old Nick & Jeremy.
Agt. the first he kept the Field,
And made the Doctor soon to yield.
And, had's Life been holier,
He'd beat the Devil and ye. Collier.
