Description
Two Carved Walnut Gothic Chairs, 19th c., one an armchair with a canted triple Gothic arch back, to pierced scrolled arms and a stepped trapezoidal seat, on turned and block tapered legs, H.- 42 3/4 in., W.- 19 3/8 in., D.- 21 in.; and a tall side chair with a trefoil and quatrefoil crest, over a cushioned back to a cushioned trapezoidal seat, on tapered turned cylindrical legs on casters, H.- 49in., W.- 19 1/2 in., D.- 18 in. (2 Pcs.) Provenance: from the Estate of Dr. Peter Elwood Dorsett, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Condition
Condition is consistent with age and use. The muslin seat covering is stained and ripped – piece in need of upholstery. Rear upholstery is dirty and stained. On this same chair, one carved flourish below cross has a broken tip. Front seat rail/legs wobble. Other chair has a split to proper left side of crest rail and center element has an old repair for a split.
