Description
American Carved Mahogany Armoire, 19th c., possibly New Orleans, with a pierced floral and fruit carved scrolled crest, flanked by large turned finials, over an arched rounded corner ogee crown, over an applied leaf and scroll frieze above double arched panel doors with applied molding, on a base with two drawers on a bracket base with a serpentine skirt, H.-117 in., W.- 63 in., D.- 22 in. Provenance: from the Estate of Dr. Peter Elwood Dorsett, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Condition
This is a very handsome example. There is a long thin crack on the proper right door, that goes from the top of the door about fifteen inches long, ending along the cane-shaped ornament. Some nicks and chips per normal with age and use. Height with just finials is approx. 8ft. 2 in. tall.
