This is a very nice pair of Asian pictures, probably Chinese, of fish and seaweed or pond grass. They appear to be watercolor and ink paintings, but we have not taken them out of the frames to inspect. They are very well done by an artist who was a superior painter of the subject matter. Neither painting is signed as far as we can tell.

Both paintings have old labels on the back, one more legible than the other, indicating that they were framed, exhibited and sold by a gallery in Paris. The labels and old framing appear to be circa 1920s or 1930s. The picture / paintings appear to be older. The labels read Encadrements de l Etoile Maison E. Paintendre - Henry Keen, Successor, 30-32, Avenue de Wagram, PARIS (VIII). This is a famous avenue in Paris and is one of 12 broad avenue roads that lead up to and away from the Arc de Triomphe.

Size: Each painting (by sight, not including the frame) is approximately 31 in. H x 11 in. W.

One picture is under glass, but the other is not. They have not been examined out of the frame; paper is old, toned, with foxing and old repairs, there are old worm holes; the black lacquer on the frame is chipped.
