Description
Unsigned Oil on Canvas Portrait of a Woman. Accompanied with a letter "Portrait of a Woman in a hat of roses oil on canvas attributed to Rene Jadot Rops (from the estate) Belgian artist early 1900's". Renée Rops (1887-1973) lived and worked in Namur where she exhibited her works with the group Le Progrès. She painted almost exclusively flower arrangements with a very traditional approach. In 1907, she took part in the Ostend Center d'Art fair held at the Casino-Kursaal in Ostend, where she exhibited Orchids and Arums and Geraniums. She married Gabriel Jadot, a senior civil servant, with whom she had a daughter, Lucie, born on May 2, 1908, who will marry an Iranian prince, Ali Shirazi Parvas. Thanks to this union, Renée Rops will frequent American society. She had a residence in Park Avenue (New York City) and in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Renée Rops is the niece of the painter and lithographer Félicien Rops. In a gilt molded frame, 28" x 24" overall. Condition: Very good.
