Description
Byzantine Bronze Chandelier, Ca. 600-1100 A.D. Large bronze hanging chandelier having a circular base plate of openwork design including three large stylized floral elements, six large circular candle or oil dish holes and three small five hole patterns. Suspended by three integral perforated lugs by three fancy link chains, each having three long links with three openwork crosses on each link. Upper fancy six-pointed star connecting cap with a large suspension hook, and three lower suspension hooks. Overall rich blue-green surface patina with scattered areas of earthen encrustation. One tiny loop damaged on one suspension chain, else intact, exc. cond. A rare and beautiful example. Size:14-1/4”D.Provenance:Private NYC. and Tel Aviv collection. Acquired 1980-2000
