Description
Transfer lithograph by famed American artist James Abbott McNeill Whistler (1834 - 1903). Entitled "The Shoemaker", this lithograph was completed in 1895 or 1896. This lithograph is printed on a thin Asian paper, and depicts a shoemaker and his wife in their shop. Signed in plate in upper center with Whistler's butterfly monogram. Whistler executed this print to appear like a charcoal sketch, giving the appearance of an original work by the master. Matted. This print was professionally restored in 2013, and is now in quite brilliant and good condition, with slight darkening along edges, not visible as matted. Print: 11" by 8 3/4". Matte opening: 9 1/2" by 7 14/16". Matte: 18" by 14".
