Description
"Banks of the Seine" by Albert Charles Wallet (French, 1852 - 1918). Oil painting on board. Late 19th century - early 20th century. Wallet was a French painter, trained in the Academic tradition, who painted in the Barbizon manner. Wallet painted tonal landscapes of the French countryside, imbued with the diffuse, dying light of the evening. In "Banks of the Seine", Wallet paints a tree-studded landscape overlooking the Seine, with two women conversing outside their cottage. The landscape is draped in an orange evening glow, and the details, most notably the leaves on the trees, are executed in a hazy, painterly manner. Quite plainly, "Banks of the Seine" is a museum quality masterpiece of both Wallet's style and the Barbizon School as a whole. Signed in lower right corner "Alb. Wallet". Very good condition. Framed, with name plate above painting. Board: 36 1/2" wide by 29" tall. Framed: 47" wide by 39 1/2" tall by 2 3/4" deep. Keywords: France, impressionist, tonalism, tonalist, artist, art, artwork, paint, painter, fancy, decor, decoration, house, home, household, Albert-Charles
