Framed photograph of a First World War airman, identified as Airman Russell O. Searer, and his handwritten notebook on aerial gunnery, including dog fighting tactics. American, 1917 - 1918. Searer filled 14 pages of his notebook with notes on how to operate a machine gun on a biplane, most likely a two-seater with gunner in the rear. One section discusses tactics of dog fighting (aerial combat). Notebook is leather bound, and produced by the W.B. Clarke Co. of Boston, MA. Photograph of Airman Searer shows him in leather jacket with hat and goggles. Condition: good, minor wear on notebook and frame as expected. Notebook: 7 3/4" wide by 9 1/2" long.
