Description
Abstract Metal Splatter Found Art, Chemiakin 22 of 35
Mixed metals
Weight: 55.5 lbs
Dimensions are 24 in h x 30 in w x 5.5 in d.
This metal slag piece was handpicked by artist Mihail Chemiakin (b.1943) over the course of 25 years of production in his Claverack, NY studio, where several such pieces were hung on the walls. In keeping with his creative practice using the found objects, textures, and shapes of street detritus, as shown in the accompanying page from his 2013 book Sidewalks of Paris, Chemiakin turned his eye toward his studio environment, transforming the excesses of his own sculpture-making process into unique objects of art.
Please note, due to the absence in auction history of comparable items, the sculptural artifacts in this auction are offered in a wide range of estimates.
Condition of all slag elements is as is, consistent with a working studio and industrial foundry setting where materials may be exposed to the elements for significant periods of time. Please call or email for a detailed condition report.
