Description
A cased English silver and silver plate desert/fruit flatware service with a city stamp of Birmingham, maker's mark of John Gammage?, and a date stamp of 1845. Each piece bears a monogram on the reverse "C W H" executed in an Old English font, and a crest of a jungle cat on the obverse. This set is comprised of (17) hollow handle knives with silverplated chased blades - approx. 8 1/2" in length; (16) hollow handle four pronged forks with silverplated chased prongs - approx. 6 3/4" in length; a hollow handle carving knife with silverplated chased blade - approx. 11" in length; (2) pair of silverplated grape sheers approx. 7 1/2" in length; and (6) silverplated nutcrackers. This set is housed in a custom lined (3) three-tier wood case with central mother of pearl cartouche bearing a crest of a jungle cat and a mother of pearl cartouche surrounding the key hole. From an important Lloyd Harbor, NY estate. Dimensions: case measures approx. 14" w x 12.25 d x 3.75" h.
Condition
Good, with light surface scratches and minor dings/dents. Hinged cases lid exhibits a few cracks and old repairss. (1) interior tray has begun to separate. Trays are void of leather handles however remnants remain. Case was relined.
