A Louis XVI porcelain and ormolu mounted mahogany bonheur du jour by Etienne Avril (1748-1791)
the English porcelain plaques probably mid-19th century additions/embellishments
Circa 1785, the galleried marble top above a pair of beaded panelled doors, each inset with a plaque painted with a different bouquet of assorted flowers, over two short drawers and a hinged foldover writing surface inset with gilt-tooled leather, with on long drawer and a pair of doors below, on fluted tapering legs, the reverse stamped: 'E. AVRIL', 66cm wide, 39cm deep, 109cm high (25 1/2in wide, 15in deep, 42 1/2in high)

Evidently Avril flourished as a cabinet maker during the Louis XVI period with various examples of his notably restrained but highly elegant style illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Francais du XVIIIeme Siecle, 1989, Paris, pp.'s 38-42.
