Liu Jiyou [yÇ’u] (October 3, 1918-November 5, 1983), a native of Tianjin, was an outstanding Chinese painter, a master of comic strip art, the founder of New China comic strips, Taishan Beidou, and the first person in Liantan. Known as the "Saint of Contemporary Painting" and "Rembrandt and Michelangelo of the East", he is an accomplished master of animal painting and figure painting in the history of modern Chinese art.
