Description
Four panel (8 sides) folding screen with each panel 15 x 64", thus 60 x 64 in expanded form. The panels have a worldwide representation of worldwide stamps from the circa 1860 period through about WW2, centering around the c1890-1925 period. More than 50 countries represented, with virtually thousands of stamps. Back of the book varieties are present, inclusive of duck stamps and American oddities, Hawaii, etc. We looked for specific application patterns to see if any clues were left as to origin or maker, and found none. While the Japanese were well known for their beautiful constructed stamp art, it does not appear to be of that origin. The screen is housed in a well and heavily constructed custom wood crate.Date: Country (if not USA): State: City: Provenance:
