(YALE UNIVERSITY). This unique, mostly signed Class of 1871 Photo Album measures 13.25" x 11", which belonged to a C. R. Lanman of Norwich, Connecticut. This album includes C. R. Lanman's Photograph along with his other 135 classmates. Each Photo measures 5.25" x 4" with the photographs of his classmates mounted to 13" x 10" gilt-edged album pages. Only five of the Photographs are not signed, all others are signed on the page below the image, together with the student's name of his home town; amazingly only five of the photographs are left unsigned. The Album covers are brown leather, engraved with a geometric border and Gold embossed stamped with "Yale" on the front cover plus "Class Book" and "1871" on the spine. At the base of the spine, the owner's name is gold stamped, "C. R. Lanman." The end papers are marbled. The covers show some light scuffing around edges and on the spine, but the interior of the album is in excellent condition with only some minor tone. Placing a nominal value of $25 per image suggests an estimated value of near $3,500 and perhaps worthy of more to the right Yale alum. A remarkable 1871 Class Photo Album memento for anyone interested in Yale University history.
