Description
Theadore Roy "Ted Turner", Virginia Beach Townscape from William and Mary College with a BFA in 1943. MA art history New York University, 1947 Taught printmaking, watercolors, sculpture, art history and photography at the University of Virginia for 33 years until his retirement in 1985. Turner received numerous awards during his lifetime and his art hangs in many museums and institutions. “Ted” became reclusive after his retirement and created works with heavy impasto and often abstract, fantasy subject matter. He was very prolific and frenetic during this period, often painting on 10 or more canvases alternately in his large studio. After his death, his work was brought to the attention of Ken Farmer. Farmer was impressed by the energy and color of this collection and decided to purchase it. A chance meeting with Gillian Bryce of Atlanta, Georgia, led to bringing the art to a bigger audience. With Gillian’s help, Turner’s paintings were enthusiastically received at the 2012 Spring Furniture Market at High Point, N.C. Ted Turner’s work is very much in step with the tastes of today’s modern buyers and it is now in fine collections, high end galleries and many selective websites. The dimensions are 20" x 24". Suggested retail $1200.00. Donated by Ken Farmer Auctions and Appraisals at Market Square, Floor: Mezzanine/Antique & Design Center-58. It is with great pride we donate this item to the auction.
