Labeled "Sarda" and numbered "SO-61" and "115-300" on verso. Black wooden liner style framed H 49", W 36.25" Enrique Sardá was born in 1922 in Puerto Cabello, Carabobo, Venezuela. He studied at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas y Artes Aplicada in Caracas, but was expelled, along with others, for protesting against their teaching methods. He abandoned canvas and began experimenting with non-traditional materials, and created abstract, constructivist works.In 1956 he studied in Rome, and then studied and settled in Paris until 1960, when he returned to Caracas. Between 1967 and 1972 he was part of the faculty of Architecture and Urban Design at the Central University of Caracas. As a constructivist artist, he was chosen for a retrospective of his work at the Museo de Arte Moderno Jesús Soto in 1995. Much of his work is kinetic, and full of optical illusions.
