Item Details
Description
Antique Neoclassical Limoges porcelain cabinet plate 1890s-1900s.

"Roman goddess Juno". Combination of transfer and original painting signed by one of the leading French porcelain artists Moville.

This plate measures approximately 8.1/2" [21cm] in diameter. A little wear, a few transfer imperfections, very good condition. [see picture]

The plate was created in cooperation of two Limoges Elite companies - Charles Ahrenfeldt and Lazeyras, Rosenfield & Lehman. Both marks are present. The plate design, gold and decorations were created by L.R. &L; while the painting of the Muse was created in CA studios, c. 1890s-1900s.

Charles AHRENFELDT (1807-1894) was born in Germany. He began importing porcelain to New York City in the 1830s. During the 1840s, he moved to Paris and had a decorating studio. Sometime between 1859 and the late 1860s he established an exporting firm in Limoges and developed a wide export market, especially to North America.

Around 1884, he also started decorating porcelain in Limoges. Possibly around this time, he started his porcelain factory. His son, Charles J. Ahrenfeldt (1856-1934), took over this porcelain factory in 1894, upon the father's death. In 1896, he built a porcelain factory in the Montjovis district of Limoges.

The company made high quality porcelain and won the Grand Prix at the Art Deco Exposition in 1925.
