Bartolomeo Platina (1421-1481) was a leading member of the humanist community in Rome and a librarian at the Vatican. He was also famously acclaimed as the author of the first printed cookbook in Europe, De honesta voluptate. This volume, not on cookery but Papal history, was for a long time the definitive work of its kind, despite its critical assessment of the Roman Pontiffs.
