SAILOR'S MODEL OF THE SCHOONER 'THOMAS W. LAWSON' UNDER FULL SAIL
Built in 1902, the tremendous, seven-masted Thomas W. Lawson held the distinction of being the largest schooner and the largest pure sailing vessel (without an auxiliary engine) ever built. She was the grand combatant in what was ultimately an unsuccessful bid to keep sailing ships competitive with steam ships. This exquisite model represents not merely a ship, but also the end of an era.
