Large Marge Parker (1919-2004) Oil on Canvas Figurative Impressionist Seated Woman. In frame measures 41"x41"x1 1/2". Weight 11 pds. Margery Parker was a third generation native Californian transplanted to the coastal area of South Carolina on Hilton Head Island, who, upon retirement, moved to Overland Park, Kansas.Though extensively a portraitist, she had a number of one-person shows and was represented in private, business and educational collections in the southeast. Parker was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, and studied at Munson Williams Procter Institute in New York and Sir John Cass College of Art in London. She received instruction from English painters Harold Workman and Ivor Weiss, water colorist Eliot O'Hara and from Atlanta, Constantin and Roman Chatov.PROVENANCE: 25 East Battery, Charleston SC. The Charles H. Drayton House, built between 1883-1886. Cited by architectural historians as one of the finest examples of Eastlake Victorian architecture in South Carolina.
