Description
All are Antique 1840 English Sterling Silver and although by 2 manufacturers, they are in a like pattern. The Coffee and Teapot were made by William Hunter, London c. 1840. Fluted baluster pattern on scroll panel feet, with fluted silver handle and spout, cast flower and leaf finial. William Hunter was well-known for his high- quality craft and skill in silverware throughout the silversmith industry in London, England. The Waste Bowl and Creamer were made by Edward, Edward Jr, John & William Barnard c. 1840. Both in a fluted pattern on scroll panel feet with small armorial Tilting Spear. Edward Barnard and Sons was a firm of British silversmiths. They created the Lily font, a large silver gilt baptismal font used in the christening services of members of the British Royal family. The company's origins date back to about 1680, when the silversmith Anthony Nelme (d. 1722) established a firm in Ave Maria Lane, London. Edward Barnard (d. 1855) was first manager and in 1829 became the proprietor, trading as Edward Barnard & Sons, with his sons Edward Barnard (d. 1868), John Barnard and William Barnard (d. 1851). In 1838, they moved to Angel Street, London. The Lily font was commissioned by Queen Victoria from Edward Barnard and Sons, for the christening of her first child, Victoria, Princess Royal on 10 February 1840, her parents first wedding anniversary. Coffee 10"x6"x9 1/2". Teapot 11"x7"x5 3/4". Waste 9"x6"x4 1/2". Creamer 5 1/2"x4"x6n1/4". Approximate Silver Weight on all 2180 grams. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate.
