British Royal Navy ship officer's sextant that comes from HMS Rion which made three 39 mile runs from Dunkirk to Dover delivering 300 soldiers per trip. On her third run a near miss from a bomb killed 15 onboard. The ship's sextant is by Heath and Company Limited, 3 Crayford, London. Scale is engraved with owner's name, H.F. Besant R.N. (Royal Navy). Henry Francis Besant OBE R.N. was born 25 November 1887. Being a member of the Order of the British Empire, he as commander of HMS Rion (FY024) which was an armed yacht that was built by Camper and Nicholson in 1928. Requisitioned by the Royal Navy in 1939, HMS Rion captured a German E boat on March 23, 1941. Winston Churchill spent time on the vessel. Aristotle Onassis owned her at one time and Onassis gave the yacht to Prince Rainier of Monaco and Grace Kelly as a wedding present. Dimensions; 4"H X 12"L X 9"Deep, 3 lbs.\
