Description
1910s (late Meiji - early Taisho) wooden Japanese kogo - box for incense used during tea ceremony. Beautifully made out of yew wood, superb piece in Japanese taste cleverly utilizing wood grain patterns as elements of design and showing its beauty without any need for further embellishments. Top and bottom fit snugly, marked with a single character on the bottom. Great subtle piece in excellent condition. Diameter 2 3/8 inches.
